Mark:

Anyone who knows me knows that one of my most preferred genres is romantic comedy. Return To Me is one of my favourite romcoms.

I think it has to be the old people - Bonnie Hunt has written and directed a group of old-timers with class and skill. Their relationships really liven this film up, after a relatively slow start, and they provide much of the comic relief from what could be, at times, a fairly hard story. I am still amused by their banter after seeing this film many times - maybe it's how I see myself and my mates being when we're in our 70's? Or how I hope we'll be.

Duchovny and Driver play the romantic leads, and they do have a certain chemistry. Although, much like many romcoms, the situations are more than a little contrived, they manage to lift this film above the contrivances with their spirit and passion.

The music is another highlight, with Sinatra and Martin the best of a mixed collection of crooners. The constant debates about the best singers, accompanied by examples of their work is a pleasure.

This isn't Citizen Kane, but I never liked that over-rated piece of crap anyway. If you're in the mood for something light and eventually uplifting, Return To Me could satisfy.
