Shaolin Soccer

Stuart:

If you’re after some slapstick comedy of ridiculous proportions, then Shaolin Soccer is the film for you.

Shaolin SoccerThis film is vibrant and crazy. There is almost no dull moments in this flimsy premise that thankfully never outstays its welcome. The special effects are fun (and at times incredibly complex), and the acting is full of over the top performances and wild takes.

The bad guy is ridiculously over the top and seems to announce all of his evil schemes to the world with carefree abandon. Why does no one crack onto the fact that he’s a bad guy? I mean, come on! His soccer team is called Team Evil! And the reference to American performance enhancing drugs is pretty funny considering what I have heard about Chinese swimmers.

Only occasionally does Shaolin Soccer slip into some very out of place gross out humour, and for the most part this wacky comedy is a lot of fun.

Sure, it doesn’t make much sense, but it’s a good use of 87 mins.
