Yeah, I was aware of their work preparing for the long-awaited but likely to never occur Halo film.
Not surprising they used some of that material, but it felt a little odd seeing it in Elysium…

Ha. The Halo vibe is hardly surprising. When the Halo film Bloomkamp was developing with Peter Jackson fell through, they decided to put all the pre-production material they’d created to good use in an original film – hence parts of District 9 resembling Halo. (This is covered in the D9 special features).

With Elysium, I felt like there was still some Halo concept art lying around, so they utilised that too.

I enjoyed this, even if it felt far more obvious and mainstream than District 9 did.
It seemed to race by, meaning that perhaps the inclusion of more of the material left out (that Stuart suggested) would have allowed it to breathe a little.
Still, solid enough without being as surprising and wonderful as D9.
Was anyone else getting a really strong Halo vibe?

The film just felt too…shallow? I wonder how much was left on the cutting room floor, particularly from the first act.

Surprisingly WAY too much Sharlto – he was great as a supporting character, but he didn’t really represent the ‘evil’ they were rebelling against like Jodie Foster did.
