The Next Big Things

Breaking into the film industry can be tough, and in many cases it's a case of who you know rather than what you can do. Well unfortunately neither Mark nor I are on close personal terms with Tarantino, Tykwer or Proyas, so the best we can do is let the world know of your marvellous amateur creations. This section of hoopla.nu is dedicated to the short (and not so short) films by those taking their first steps into what is hopefully a long and prosperous career in filmmaking. Here I will critique your shoestring masterpieces and help advertise any screenings you may be having. Whilst none of the films will receive a traditional star rating system, my review will include credit where credit is due and a little constructive criticism. Amateur filmmaking gives us a glimpse of the future, and maybe even a new take on the past, so please contact us to send in your magnum opus (or even just your opus will do).

You get a sense that the frustrations these wannabe filmmakers are facing are real. For anyone who's ever tried to make their own homemade masterpiece, their experiences are all too familiar.
