Stuart's best and worst of 2004
I can't say I wasn't surprised at the results of my own reviews, for 2004. But this year has included a lot of films that will be remembered (at least by me). Note that I have at least two comedies here (not looking at anyone particular, Mr Mark).
Nothing short of brilliant. Also poignant, intelligent and above all relevant. I doubt there will be a film this good in 2005. Rating:

Pixar once again prove they are masters of the medium. Funny, thrilling, exciting.

Simple powerful, and above all, OLD SCHOOL. None of that overused wirework or 'bullet time', this is action pure and simple, with a great story to boot. (made 2003, seen 2004 at Melbourne International Film Festival).

It may have been preaching to the choir and unashamedly biased, but Moore's exposé was powerful, intelligent and, well, sensible.

A film with many flaws, yet wonderfully heartfelt and entertaining all the same. Natalie Portman was brilliant, thus having prevented her career from dying in the wake of Star Wars.

A perfectly conceived drama. All aspects of this film were executed flawlessly, I just didn't love it.

Hilarious, exciting and above all VERY COOL. Now that we've had a couple of good zombie movies, can Hollywood finally put the deceased to rest for a decade or so?

Though I'm sure it was nothing like Asimov's book, this is a great Hollywood popcorn movie. Will Smith was a bit off key, but Sonny the robot stole the show.

Terrifying and unrelenting. Long live digital filmmaking! (made 2003, released 2004 in Australia).

Don't listen to me. M.Night Shyamalan could film 3 hours in the life of an ingrown toenail (in real time) and I'd still bow down in awe and respect. A master filmmaker whose aim was slightly off this time. Oh, and Bryce Dallas Howard is TNBT.

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead - 0/10
Resident Evil: Apocalypse - 0/10

Three suns (Tres Solar) - 1.5/10
