2nd May - Coming Soon - Safe

There are a lot of casualties in this film, and once the action starts, it barely lets up. As Statham kicks, punches and shoots his way through most of the criminal population of New York, we're never given a chance to catch our breaths.

2nd May - Film Review - Battleship

Battleship is big, stupid and occasionally fun. There are a handful of excellent scenes, but the screenplay comprises nothing more than tenuous links between the set pieces. The visual effects are occasionally impressive, but are often obscured by lens flares or otherwise over-saturated.

2nd May - Film Review - The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

The foul odour of imperialism isn't too far off, yet the film manages to avoid it for the most part by simply not being concerned about the country in which it's set at all. First and foremost it's about a group of people nearing the end of their lives and looking back on what they've done; the setting is for the most part immaterial.

2nd May - Film Review - Cracks in the Shell

As a psychological drama and depiction of life in the theatre, it's an interesting tale. Above all, the performance of Christensen is magnificent. The film doesn't stack up perfectly against similarly-themed contemporaries, but it's a decent film nonetheless.

27th April - Film Review - The Avengers

It comes as no surprise that Natasha Romanoff is practically the main character - another in the long line of strong female leads written by Whedon. She's strong, assertive, intelligent and no-nonsense, and not once does the camera salaciously follow the contours of her body.
